In addition, the main producer of Sergei was the “king” of the local stage, Philip Kirkorov. He has previously taken part in Eurovision and produced such performers as Ani Lorak and Sakis Rouvas. Therefore, Philip knew about any intricacies of the music competition.

The Russian channel VGTRK independently chose Lazarev as a Eurovision participant. Therefore, there were no audience votes or any qualifying competitions. Perhaps this was the right decision.

There were different opinions about whether Sergei Lazarev could win or lose in the current competition. Some companies openly stated that the Russian performer would not be able to win first place due to the acute political situation. However, several months before the start of the competition, Sergei’s song occupied the leading positions in the popular charts. Ukrainian singer Jamala

Mainly in music competition, many countries choose to give their votes to friendly allies or neighbors. Therefore, it is almost impossible to win only thanks to vocals and a beautiful performance. In this finale, many states and countries were divided into several fronts, those who supported the Russian course of policy, and Ukraine's position on this issue. A few days before the final, opinions and scandals constantly circulated around the performer from Ukraine. Jamala refused to give interviews to Russian journalists and answer questions. Accordingly, Ukrainian sources of information quickly embraced the wave of negativity and directed it at the audience of the competition.

Final competition

As the main sources of RIA Novosti reported, according to Russian spectators and the jury of the music competition, the first place was taken by the performer from Armenia Mukuchyan Iveti. According to Sergei Lazarev, the Russian team managed to attract attention and overcome negative emotions from the local and European public.

“At the very beginning, each of us understood certain “nuances” in relation to Russian performers. However, we were pleasantly surprised when we learned that we were able to suppress the negative attitude towards Russian performers. People are wondering how Eurovision 2016 ended: the results of the final, places, which countries won the leading positions?

Lazarev said that he was warned about the attitude towards local performers. For several years, many spectators had negative attitudes and reactions to the performances of Russian singers. Even despite the fact that they performed at a high and worthy level. This final was incredible for the Russian performer, since all viewers in Europe voted for him. It was they who gave their votes to Sergei Lazarev and awarded first place at the end of Eurovision. However, the opinions of the jury, representing 42 countries, were not so unanimous.
According to the voting results, in the final part of the competition the jury from Ukraine did not award even one point to the Russian performer. While the residents of Ukraine unanimously gave their votes to Sergei and awarded him 12 points. Official information was published on the website of the music competition.

The king of Russian pop music and producer Philip Kirkorov wrote the words to the song “You are the only one.” In addition, the famous singer noted that the opinion of the audience is the most important achievement and result. “A huge number of television viewers cast their votes for the Russian performer Sergei Lazarev. Eurovision 2016 music competition: final results, scores for each participant are presented on the official resource. Therefore, the main achievement is their opinion and number one choice.”

Russian singer Lazarev said in his interview that this result is a huge victory for him in terms of achievement at the music competition. The bronze medal is a wonderful achievement, according to the Russian singer. As the performer himself stated, for him participation in the competition is already a big victory. In fact, 3rd place is a worthy result for every musician. Therefore, Lazarev was very pleased that he was appreciated and without bias. The singer noted that his brain “exploded” and he couldn’t wait for the competition to end. He was filled with positive emotions and excitement.

The main organizers of the music competition decided to introduce a new system for counting votes. Now it has become competitive and unpredictable in terms of the final result. Thus, as it turned out, the winner could be the one who was determined by the judges. It is worth recalling that a little earlier, only viewers took part in the voting. However, every year the organizers change the rules and introduce some new items or already proven vote counting systems.

According to the rules, judges must give their votes to performers on a point system from 1 to 12. Based on the results of the music competition, judges' opinions will be counted by leading European countries, as a rule. In parallel with this process, TV viewers can give preference to their favorite performer (exception, you cannot vote for your country) from 1 to 12 points. People will not rest until they find out the results of the final: Eurovision 2016.

At the end of the voting, they are summed up and announced after the results of the judge's decision.
The voting process begins with the country with the lowest number of judges' points. Accordingly, at the end of this process, the overall result can be significantly adjusted for a particular musician.

Russian performer Sergei Lazarev, who performed the song You Are the Only One, there were no equals in the vote of television viewers, but he took only third place against the background of the vote of the professional jury, which instantly provoked a lot of statements about “art councils that decide the fate of art.”

the Eurovision organizers said.

If not for the innovation with a professional jury, Sergei Lazarev would have become the winner,” -

said one of the participants in the Russian broadcast of Eurovision .

In Europe there is a colossal gap between elites and ordinary citizens. Ordinary citizens listen to music, appreciate art and vote with their hearts! The elites live in captivity of certain cliches and frameworks of behavior,”

explained one of the Russian commentators for Eurovision 2016, Ernest Matskevichus.

The Federation Council called for a boycott of Eurovision 2017 in Ukraine

The results of the Eurovision contest, in which Russian performer Sergei Lazarev took third place and Ukrainian singer Jamala won with a song about the deportation of the Tatars, were politically biased, Elena Drapeko (A Just Russia), the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Culture, told TASS.

I believe, of course, that the results of this competition are politically biased, and partly this is a consequence of the propaganda information war that is being waged against Russia. We are talking about the general demonization of Russia - that everything is bad with us, that our athletes are doped, our planes violate airspace - this, of course, has an effect,” the agency quotes the deputy.

The head of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Konstantin Kosachev, in turn, said that despite the victory, Ukraine is among the losers.

Ukraine, paradoxically, is among the losers. In numbers - because many lost. Music lost because it was clearly not the best composition that won. I lost the competition because instead of fair competition, political principles prevailed,” Kosachev believes.

First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Franz Klintsevich even called for a boycott of Eurovision 2017, which will be held in Kyiv next year.

“It was not the Ukrainian singer Jamala who won Eurovision 2016 with the song “1944” - politics took precedence over art, and this happened so openly for the first time.<...>Next year Eurovision will be held in Kyiv, and the organizers will go out of their way to politicize it as much as possible, turning it into a triumph of democracy in Ukrainian... If nothing changes in Ukraine (by next year - approx.), I don’t think we need to participate in all this,” Klintsevich said.

Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that the song "1944" carries a political connotation, while in The Eurovision organizing committee before the semi-finals clearly said that political songs at the competition would mean disqualification of the participant. In addition, after Jamala’s performance in the semi-finals, European users criticized her composition, calling Ukraine’s behavior “childish.” In addition, after the semi-final, the artist moved from second to third place in the bookmakers’ ranking.

Eurovision has finally turned into an instrument of hybrid, information warfare,” they write on social networks. Others note that “the people of Europe voted for Lazarev, but the money for Eurovision 2017 will be paid by the budget of Ukraine. I think it's wonderful!"

In turn, the above-mentioned Russian TV presenter Ernest Matskyavichusi and his colleague in commentating Eurovision 2016 Dmitry Guberniev, as users noted, “responded extremely correctly to Jamala’s song, Jamala herself and Ukraine.” They noted that Europe, in light of the “migrant” crisis, treats the song “1944” with a broader interpretation.
