White Punk (Daniil Bumagin)

Who: Penza beatmaker who works with the Pharaoh group on a regular basis Dead Dynasty. Solo composes very slow and gloomy music, where there is almost no beat - but there are gloomy guitars and keyboard fog

What: Pharaoh "Wild, for example", Pharaoh "Cold Siemens", Pharaoh "Idol", Boulevard Depot"Rare Mess", White Punk "Vampire"

How much does a bit cost: unknown

I listened to a lot of bands different directions looking for the music that can teach me something. I remember when I was nine years old I heard the track “Say it Right” by Nelly Furtado and Timbaland, and it was just something. He especially loved Michael Jackson. He is the king. Until I was 14 I listened to indie folk, Klaxons, Bon Iver, MGMT, Lykke Li. Then I started listening to Enter Shikari, Aphex Twin, The Prodigy. So I got to the classics: Kiss, Metallica, Burzum, Slayer, Marilyn Manson, Deftones, Misfits. Then my life turned into rap. I was about 15: Three Six Mafia, SpaceGhostPurrp, Raider Klan - I have a special love for them - ASAP Rocky.

Listening definitely helps with creativity. I recently released my first track in Russian, called “Vampire”, it sounds interesting.

I think that I started to succeed adequately and coolly already under the pseudonym Phantom. During this time, I managed to work with the aforementioned Raider Klan, and was in the same team from Los Angeles with RVMIRXZ from G59. Then I connected a lot and made music with dudes who made phonk. It was cool. At that time Gleb (Pharaoh. - Note ed.) and invited him to “Dynasty” (Dead Dynasty. - Note ed.).

Gleb and I find it very easy to work with each other. I remember at the very beginning I wrote music for the “PayWall” mixtape with Depot Boulevard. We made it in less than a week!

There used to be more mechanics when creating tracks. Nowadays, making music is more like an acid trip and eureka moments. The beat for “Wildly, for example” was written in complete darkness in 30 minutes. Within a few days the text appeared. At that moment we understood that it would be a hit.

I only communicate with Dynasty. This is my family. The place where you will always be understood and supported, a place where you can discuss problems of different nature. Well, this is a treasure trove talented musicians. I really hope that many of us will deservedly achieve more in this life.

All my works with Dynasty and Gleb were only on creative basis. There was no such thing as someone offering me money and asking me to write to order. Everything was from pure heart. The most important thing in music is the feeling.

It's easier to just steal. As, for example, did “Evening Urgant”

Ploty (Alexey Veprintsev)

Who: Rostovite, responsible for the main bangers of Pika, member of the MLK+ association (another native from there, May Wave$, recently began working with Booking Machine)

What: Pika “Patimemaker”, Pika “UE”, May Wave$ “Smokey Tears”, “Caspian Cargo” “Oscar”, Eldzhey “Ultraviolet Lamp”

What is the price: 1300 rubles for a premium track (that is, for the entire project for separate tracks plus wav and mp3 files; there is also an “exclusive”, when the beat is removed from sale altogether)

When I was 11 years old, my grandmother bought me a CD. She thought it had music because it said “Hip-Hop eJay,” but it turned out to be a program for making simple beats. That's how I started making the first beats. Then I went to music school, but didn’t finish my studies for a year. I dressed like the blacks in the videos, so when I returned from the music party, I was severely beaten right near my house. I was treated for almost a year and didn’t go to music school - and then I didn’t want to recover.

Ironically, the first track I posted on the Internet was recorded to Pika’s beat. I was 13 years old then. That is, at first I bought beats from Pika, and then I started writing to him.

His track with my beat “Demons of the Fog” was played on channel “A1”. I was about 15 years old, and then I thought that I probably knew something about music, since it was on TV.

There are no preparations for all occasions. And when I sit down to make a beat, I often don’t know what it will turn into.

My version of “Patimemaker” was already the third in a row. Pika played a demo with his beat and asked him to do something fresher. I first made one version, and a couple of days later I made another, which ended up being included on the album. Before writing this bit, I meditated for half an hour. And in a state of energy balance and trance, a motive came to my mind, which I began to develop. An hour later I finished it.

Meditation doesn't just help with creativity. Meditation and mindfulness training saved my life in some ways.

You know, in Russia, in my opinion, people underestimate the work of beatmakers. That's why people don't often pay attention to who wrote the music. Accordingly, we only get splashes from the wave of hype, even if it’s a very hit track. For the most part, Partymaker gave me a good portfolio to meet new people cool musicians. Well, the demand for bits has increased.

In America, beatmakers earn tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars; for them, $1000–5000 for an exclusive beat is a normal price, and their names are often visible. In Russia it’s not on such a scale, but you can make money. It could be a couple of thousand or a couple of hundred thousand a month - as in any business.

I work with my team and don’t interfere with any other communities. I met May Waves two years ago, America and O.T. I've known you for 10 years already. On January 1, 2017, we gathered at the studio, played demos and beats for each other, and the boys took me into the group. We understand each other perfectly both in music and in life, in everyday and personal matters. Most often, whoever writes something first is the first to write it down. We write tracks immediately and record them immediately. Sometimes we’ll make 3-4 demos a night. Sometimes, of course, we simply arrange the verses by ear - who is first, who is last.

In addition to beats for sale, I make various electronic tracks, just music and ready-made compositions. It's a great way to get your music out to people. Then you are no longer just a beatmaker, but an artist, DJ and musician - you can play your music, tour and sell tracks in online services.

Empaldo Beats (Valentin Filatov)

Who: 22-year-old Moscow beatmaker, loving dance music, co-writer of one of the most quotable songs of last year

What: Eldzhey and Feduk “Rose wine”, Eldzhey “ Ripped jeans", Eljay and Kravets "Disconnect", Tony Routh and Talibal "Bloody Mary"

What is the price: 2000 rubles for a premium track

Somehow I made one beat and it started one after another, and so I became a beatmaker.

I tried to make my way to the West, registered on websites. But there are a lot of beatmakers there. I decided to show myself first on the Russian market.

I immediately began releasing tracks only for sale. The first famous person I sold the beat to was Eljay. We're talking about the track. I met him on VKontakte, sent him some bits, and work began.

About "Rose Wine". I just made a track, posted it to the group, and Eljay wrote whether he was free or not. I said: "Free." He took it. After Rose Wine, people started finding out about me, asking about me, and so on. As for attribution in the caption of a YouTube video, this is confidential information.

It all depends on the beatmaker, on his taste. I have both rattles and strong Skrillex-style smashing. I don’t follow other beatmakers, only those I know personally. I have encountered theft of tracks and stopped some individuals.

Sometimes a track takes a day, sometimes even 15 minutes. I don't have my own studio. To create a beat, I need a MIDI keyboard, a laptop and speakers, and a program. This is how many beatmakers work.

Is it enough to live on and do you have to work somewhere else? I would prefer to remain silent about work. But I will say one thing: everything is possible in life.

Sad Soul Productions (Arslan Beisekov)

Who: multi-machine beatmaker who prefers lyrics and dancehall to thrill and house

What: MiyaGi & Endgame "I Got Love", ST1M & Black Bros. “Prayer”, Artem Loik “Question and Answer”, Homie “Mary”

What is the price: 3000 rubles for a premium track

Yes, beatmakers almost always remain on the sidelines. And for this reason, many do not want to work in the CIS.

Personally, I am now targeting the West, where beatmakers are valued on an equal basis with artists. If you made a hit track, then you can consider that this is your ticket to career, into a luxurious life.

Have I collaborated with foreign artists? No, only with beatmakers. Namely with E-Motion-L Productions from Germany and Life and Death Productions from Anno Domini Nation. For me, foreign artists are no better than Russian ones. Like them, we also have underperformers.

I started playing music in 2011. And the love for music, one might say, started from the cradle. My interest pushed me into beatmaking. I just knew, I knew that it was really mine.

I have a friend, his brother wrote tracks at home. This is how I first saw that you can make music on a computer without knowing any instruments. I was surprised and the interest became even greater.

For work I have a PC, keyboard, monitor, mouse, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 sound card and regular Microlab M-219 speakers. The equipment does not play a special role; it can only make the work faster and more convenient. It is important to be able to work with your mind and feel the sounds of vibration. I compose tracks quite easily: I sit, play, and if something works out, it goes on like clockwork. On average, it takes an hour and a half to write one beat.

I don't remember the first bit. I did and still do so much that I forget the names of projects. My first beat was sold for 300 rubles when I was 15 years old. The business has truly become profitable since 2015.

I heard the Endgame track "Crimson Dawn". This was the reason for meeting him. In April 2016, I wrote to him via VKontakte. And with Azamat (Kudzaev, MiyaGi. - Note ed.) we, one might say, never even met. After the track “I Got Love” I wrote to him: “Thank you for the track,” after which I received a response - that’s all.

I made “I Got Love” on August 13, 2016. It was one in the morning and I was sitting working on a new beat. First played main motive on the piano. Then I diluted it with other tools. At the end I added a drum part, an 808 kick and mixed the beat. After publishing the beat, I sent it to Soslan, to which I received the answer: “This will be a hit!” The guys kept their word.

It is quite possible to make money from beats. If you really good musician, then definitely yes. I won’t give numbers, but I have enough for clothes and food.

Beatmaker(from English) Beatmaker from beat- rhythm and maker- manufacturer; that is, creating a bit, “bit-maker”).
In Rap- a music person who creates musical accompaniment for MC.”

A beat is a simplified designation for the music to which rap artists recite their lyrics. A beatmaker performs the functions of a composer, arranger, and record producer. Nowadays, beat making is an art in the rap and hip-hop genres.

Some of the most famous US beatmakers include Dr. Dre, Scott, Storch, Just, Blaze, Alсhemist, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, will.i.am. Many of them are not limited to rap music, also producing tracks in the genres of modern rhythm and blues and pop music.

Among Russian beatmakers we can mention such musicians as Marat (KRec), Beatmaker Beat (Def Joint), Karandash (My Dream District), Vladi (Casta), Nel (Marselle), Dead K.I.T. (Yu.G. ), Alex Muscle(South Squad) and Slim(CENTR).

This article will talk about how to become a beatmaker.

Here I will continue, how to become a beatmaker.

Who is a beatmaker??

This is a person who makes backing tracks or music, for his own texts or for other people. Of course, maybe just for art or to be recognized and respected. All this is done naturally on a computer.

There are countless programs for this, the most famous of which are Frooty Loops Studio, Cubase, Reason, eJay.

The most popular programs for beatmaker is:

Frooty Loops Studio(hereinafter referred to as fruit, fruit, FL) is my choice, and the choice of the majority. Easy to learn, flexible setup, a sea of plugins/samples/loops/templates on the Internet, some of them are presented on our website and you can download them absolutely free =) Is it funny? Yes, but I’ve seen people manage to sell samples, but we won’t fall for it if they offer it =)

eJay- probably everyone knows her, because... everyone started with her. Probably the most simple program to create music. You are given many, many samples, all you have to do is arrange them in the right order. Of course, there are a lot of samples, but even with so many of them it can be difficult to create the desired composition. This is the main disadvantage of eJay - the impossibility of creating your own samples, as you can do, for example, in Fruit. In general, eJay is an amateur program if you are lazy or simply don’t have time to spend a couple of weeks mastering more advanced programs.

Cubase and Reason, undoubtedly, also very good programs, but I can’t tell you about them, since I had no experience working with them. In the near future I will start working with these programs and will add to this article.

All of these programs are good for creating music. Most are successful FL Studio, at least you need to start with it, because... it is the easiest to learn and has considerable capabilities.
In order to create high-quality music, you need:
1) Don't be deaf, but rather have good hearing.
2) Have hands, it is desirable that they know how to correctly do what the brain says.
3) Have a head and the desire to create in it.
4) High-speed Internet is desirable, or you will have to download programs, samples, and so on.

There are disputes Is it possible to make high-quality minuses without music education ? As practice shows, Can. Many excellent beatmakers have no musical education, and this does not prevent them from creating masterpieces. Of course, music. education will not be superfluous, but you can completely do without it. As they say, there would be a desire.
It all comes down to practice - you can read a million articles on creating music, but it will be a waste of time without practice. The more there is, the better. And the better quality your works will be. Practice, practice and more practice.

Even if something doesn’t work out at first, don’t be upset. Experience comes with time, the more time you devote to music, the faster you will achieve the final goal, that is, creating high-quality instrumentals.

So, step-by-step instruction how to become a beatmaker

  1. Download FL Studio (can be downloaded on our website) or any other program for creating music.
  2. Download lots and lots of samples and add them to the program of your choice.
  3. Get comfortable with the program.
  4. To practice.

As soon as something happens worthy of attention, do not hesitate to display your work, find out the opinions of others, perhaps they will help you with advice, all this will have a beneficial effect on you.

There are countless talents on our planet. There are certainly many more unrecognized geniuses than famous and well-known ones. Just a couple of decades ago, in order to convey your talent to a true connoisseur, in order to find your audience, you had to go through the regional committee “through the ford” and win the sympathy of some mercantile official lady. It was not difficult to prove yourself, but in order to be noticed and distinguished from others, at least with a “tick,” you had to try very hard. And now - voila! I wanted to draw a picture, nothing could be simpler. You bought (and most often stole) Photoshop, and you are already a brush and paint guru. It's the same story with songs.

How does a beatmaker work?

Almost everyone can write poetry and rhyme lines, but creating a melody is much more difficult, you need ear for music. Here it is not enough just to know the alphabet and understand from which words you can put together a beautiful “literary ladder” - the notes “make friends” in a different way. And creating something musical composition, we need to work comprehensively. “Freshly baked” singer-songwriters have only three tasks - write words, create music and combine them into a single whole. Some people so please their pride, others want to leave a memory in family archive, and someone wants to show off their talent in a grateful circle of friends. Rap and R&B are quite popular musical styles modernity. The basis of this music is a beat built on the sounds of various percussion instruments. But with all its features, it goes perfectly with fast, active, invigorating club music. electronic music, and with motifs from classical lyrical works.

Only a specialist improviser, called a beatmaker, can create a unique minus, that is, a phonogram. He is a magician who turns the “drum roll” into a beautiful piece of music. This process does not last long if you know a few basic steps leading to the desired result. The first thing to do before creating a backing track is to determine its tempo and rhythm, which will serve as the basis for the entire track as a whole. There are conditional, unspoken divisions of genres based on the number of beats per minute. Lyrical rap compositions, for example, are written at a speed of about eighty beats; dance, rhythmic club music - from one hundred twenty to two hundred. Determining rhythm and speed helps the beatmaker understand which instruments are best to use, in which parts of the work and in what quantity to place them. The next step is not just to set the rhythm of the composition with a metronome, but to write it on different rhythmic percussion instruments, such as snare, kick, viola, hats and others. There are practically no rules here, only creative thinking and the beatmaker’s personal attitude to music. When the drums are placed on the tracks in the required order, and the necessary rhythm is created, you can begin to decorate the classic “slotting”. Because of the beat, the main theme of the composition often begins, although there are three options in total, from which there is no escape - the main melody begins before the beat, along with it and after it. When it enters the composition is decided by the creator of the track. The main melody should not sound constantly. It may appear at the very beginning to allow the listener to grasp the motive, then it should disappear for a while, leaving free space for the voice, if one is implied. If the voice does not sound in the composition, then you will have to play with the volume level of the main theme, and not the beat. Most often the beat remains at the same volume level. Arrangements are usually written by the beatmaker after the first thirty to forty seconds of sound and do not last long. They appear over time, giving the listener the opportunity to relax.

When the main parts and parts of the composition are written down, the time comes for the most important stage - mixing. Now the beatmaker determines the sound levels of instruments, selects any fragments of the track and divides the tracks by frequency. In other words, it frees up space in the track for voice or other additions. Next comes mastering, and bringing together all the components of the track into a single whole. The track is ready. You can repeat it and enjoy exclusive sound!
