The Moscow Department of Culture has approved a list of museums that this year will be open to visitors free of charge every third Sunday of the month. In addition to large exhibition complexes, citizens will be able to visit small museum exhibitions. For example, the memorial museum in the House of N.V. Gogol or the Submarine Museum in the Northern Tushino Park.

“This event takes place in the capital every year. Free days at museums are an excellent chance to visit permanent and temporary exhibitions, learn more about the history of the city and country, and see the works of contemporary artists and classics,” said the press service of the Department of Culture.

This year, Muscovites and city guests are welcome at 40 museum sites. For those interested in the history of the capital, the Garden Ring and House on the Embankment museums, as well as the Moscow Defense Museum, will be open. In addition, once a month you can get free access to the museums of Mikhail Bulgakov, Marina Tsvetaeva or the Alexander Scriabin Memorial Museum. For the first time this year, the Kovcheg exhibition hall is also participating in the event.

On New Year's holidays, 77 museums opened their doors to everyone. The city residents visited the most interesting and relevant exhibitions from January 2 to January 7.

Open days in Moscow museums
Open days, when you can go to the museum without paying, are every third Sunday of the month. Every third Sunday of the month, exhibition halls and galleries under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Department of Culture can be visited absolutely free of charge. This year, Muscovites and city guests are welcome at 40 museum sites.

The promotion of free visits to Moscow museums takes place monthly, every third Sunday. These days, everyone can view the exhibitions of museums controlled by the Moscow Department of Cultural Affairs completely free of charge. The next day of free admission is October 21, 2018.

In addition, every day, schoolchildren and college students in Moscow, as part of the “Museums for Children” program, can visit about 100 museums, galleries and exhibition halls for free. To visit the museum for free, a child needs to find a ticket office with a sign that says “A schoolchild can get a free ticket here.” The cashier will ask you to attach your social card or Moskvyonok card to the reader and, if the card is valid, will issue you a free ticket.

There are a huge number of museums in Moscow. It is difficult to find an aspect of history, culture or art about which interesting educational information has not been collected in one or another museum collection. Some categories of the population - children, students, pensioners - enjoy benefits when visiting cultural institutions. For others, going to a museum remains an expensive pleasure.

To popularize museums and increase the accessibility of cultural treasures for citizens, the Moscow Department of Cultural Affairs adopted a resolution that introduces a monthly Open Day into the work schedule of Moscow museums.
