Today I will write about a problem that I personally encountered not long ago, namely: the printer prints one page, it ignores the number of specified copies to print, and prints only one. In this case, the problem occurred with the HP 1320 printer, but it can occur not only with models and devices from this manufacturer. Usually in this situation the user begins to delve into the settings of the program from which printing is done; reinstall drivers, etc. If he is not very knowledgeable about computer technology, then he calls professionals who are not shy about taking “decent” payment for their work. However, you can easily avoid losing your nerves and money and use my instructions. After this, your printer will stop printing one page or copy at a time and will continue to work fully. The method for fixing the problem is extremely simple; even an untrained user can use it. If the problem does not go away, you can use more complex methods to resolve the error at the end of the article.

The printer only prints one page

So, if we start to understand our problem, when the printer only prints one copy. There are several solutions to resolve this error. I will start with the most obvious and simple ones, and if this does not help you, then you can try to fix the problem in less obvious ways, which I will also talk about.

Changing the printer print processor

Most often, it is enough to change the printer’s print processor so that our printer starts printing the entire document again and stops ignoring the number of specified copies.

How to change the printer's print processor?

After this, the problem should disappear. If the error remains, proceed to the next step.

Disabling Mopier mode

If your printer does not print multiple copies and only prints one page, then quite often this is due to the fact that the “Mopier” mode is enabled in the settings of your device. What is this mode and why is it used?

Mopier mode reduces the amount of network traffic between your computer and printer. Thus, the computer does not send each copy of your document to the printer separately (for example, if you have 100 copies specified, then each copy is sent to the printer as a separate “file”), but sends one copy of the document and “indicates” the required number of copies. However, such a document ultimately takes up quite a large amount of space in the memory of the printing device, and sometimes the printer or MFP may simply not have enough memory. In that case The printer only prints one page of the document, and ignores the rest. In this case, you need to disable this mode

How to disable Mopier mode?

It was this method that helped me cope with the problem that arose. Many older printers suffer from having a small amount of memory and therefore cannot print “voluminous” documents with a large number of copies with the “Mopier” mode enabled. Also, this error may appear if you are using a print server (as in my case)

Clearing the printer's print queue

If the previous methods did not help you and your printer is still printing one page at a time, you can try clearing the printer's print queue. Usually it is located along this path:

%windir%\System32\spool\printers

i.e. this is usually the way C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool

You need to go into the folder and delete all files from it. In addition, you can download a bat file, which will clear the printer's print queue. You just need to run it as an administrator and it will do the job for you.

Removing the printer and installing a new driver

So, is the printer still printing one copy at a time? Try removing the printer from the Control Panel and installing the latest driver.

  • Go to “Control Panel”, then “Devices and Printers”, right-click on your printer icon and select “Uninstall”
  • After that, download the driver for your printer from the manufacturer’s website and install. For HP you can download the “Universal HP Driver”
  • Install the driver and check if this action resolves your problem

Can't print multiple copies from Word

In addition to the methods listed, here are a few more tips that Microsoft gives if you only manage to print one copy at a time from Office Word. I explained in the text above how to access the printer driver properties.

  1. Disable background printing in Microsoft Word (Word Options - Advanced - Printing - uncheck "Print in background"
  2. Disable the print queue in the printer driver properties (select the “Print directly to printer” mode)
  3. Change the graphics mode from vector to raster in the printer driver properties
  4. Press CTRL + END to go to the end of the document. On the Insert tab, select Page Break to add a page break to your document. Add a blank page after the break (you can do this by pressing Enter several times, placing the cursor after the break). This can also help if you need to print multiple copies but only one prints.
  5. Install the latest printer driver from the manufacturer's official website

So, today we learned several ways that will allow us to get rid of the error when the printer prints only one page, prints one copy. I hope that my article helped you get rid of this problem.

Some Microsoft Word users sometimes encounter a problem - the printer does not print documents. It’s one thing if the printer basically doesn’t print anything, that is, it doesn’t work in all programs. In this case, it is quite obvious that the problem lies in the equipment. It’s a completely different matter if the print function does not work only in Word or, which also sometimes occurs, only with some, or even with one document.

Whatever the reasons behind the problem when the printer does not print documents, in this article we will deal with each of them. Of course, we will also tell you how to fix this problem and still print the necessary documents.

Reason 1: Inattentive user

For the most part, this applies to inexperienced PC users, because there is always a possibility that a beginner who encounters a problem is simply doing something wrong. We recommend that you make sure that you are doing everything correctly, and our article on printing in the Microsoft editor will help you figure it out.

Reason 2: Equipment connection is incorrect

It is possible that the printer is not connected correctly or is not connected to the computer at all. So at this stage you should double-check all cables, both at the output/input from the printer and at the output/input of the PC or laptop. It would be a good idea to check whether the printer is turned on at all; perhaps someone turned it off without your knowledge.

Reason 3: Problems with equipment performance

Having opened the printing section in Word, you should make sure that you have selected the correct printer. Depending on the software installed on your work machine, there may be several devices in the printer selection window. True, all but one (physical) will be virtual.

If your printer is not listed in this window or is not selected, you should make sure it is ready.

Reason 4: Problem with a specific document

Quite often, Word does not want, or rather cannot, documents because they have been damaged or contain damaged data (graphics, fonts). It is quite possible that you will not have to make much effort to solve the problem if you try the following manipulations.

If you are able to print a test text document, then the problem was hidden in the file itself. Try copying the contents of the file you couldn't print and pasting it into another document, then sending it to print. In many cases this can help.

If the document you desperately need printed still won't print, there's a good chance it's damaged. In addition, this possibility also exists if a particular file or its contents are printed from another file or on another computer. The fact is that the so-called symptoms of damage to text files may well appear only on some computers.

Reason 5: MS Word crashes

As was said at the very beginning of the article, some problems with printing documents may only affect Microsoft Word. Others may affect several (but not all) or indeed all programs installed on the PC. In any case, when trying to thoroughly understand why Word does not print documents, it is worth understanding whether the cause of this problem lies in the program itself.

Try sending a document for printing from any other program, for example, from the standard WordPad editor. If possible, paste the contents of the file that you cannot print into the program window, and try sending it for printing.

If the document is printed, you will be convinced that the problem is in Word, therefore, move on to the next point. If the document did not print in another program, we still proceed to the next steps.

Reason 6: Background printing

In the document that you want to print on a printer, perform the following manipulations:

Reason 7: Incorrect drivers

Perhaps the problem why the printer does not print documents does not lie in the connection and readiness of the printer, nor in the Word settings. Perhaps all the methods described above did not help you solve the problem due to the drivers on the MFP. They may be incorrect, outdated, or even completely absent.

Therefore, in this case, you need to reinstall the software required for the printer to operate. You can do this in one of the following ways:

  • Install the drivers from the disk that comes with the equipment;
  • Download drivers from the manufacturer’s official website, selecting your specific hardware model, indicating the installed version of the operating system and its bit depth.

After you've reinstalled the software, restart your computer, open Word, and try to print the document. We discussed the procedure for installing drivers for printing equipment in more detail in a separate article. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with it in order to definitely avoid possible problems.

Reason 8: Lack of access rights (Windows 10)

In the latest version of Windows, problems with printing documents in Microsoft Word may be caused by insufficient system user rights or the lack of them in relation to one specific directory. You can get them as follows:

  1. Log into the operating system under an account with Administrator rights, if this has not been done previously.
  2. Go to the path C:\Windows (if the OS is installed on a different drive, change its letter in this address) and find the folder there "Temp".
  3. Right-click on it (RMB) and select the item in the context menu "Properties".
  4. In the dialog box that opens, go to the tab "Safety". Based on the username, find in the list "Groups or users" the account through which you work in Microsoft Word and plan to print documents. Select it and click on the button "Change".
  5. Another dialog box will open, and in it you also need to find and select the account used in the program. In the parameter block "Group Permissions", in the column "Allow", check the checkboxes opposite all the items presented there.
  6. To close the window, click "Apply" And "OK"(in some cases, additional confirmation of changes will be required by pressing "Yes" in a pop-up window "Windows Security"), restart your computer, making sure to log in to the same account for which we provided the missing permissions in the previous step.
  7. Launch Microsoft Word and try to print the document.
  8. If the problem with printing was due to the lack of necessary permissions, it will be fixed.

Checking files and settings of the Word program

In the event that problems with printing are not limited to one specific document, when reinstalling drivers did not help, when problems arise in Word alone, you should check its performance. In this case, you need to try running the program with default parameters. You can reset the values manually, but this is not the easiest process, especially for inexperienced users.

  1. Open the folder with the downloaded installer and run it.
  2. Follow the instructions of the Installation Wizard (it is in English, but everything is intuitive).
  3. Upon completion of the process, the performance problem will be resolved automatically, Word settings will be reset to default values.
  4. Since the Microsoft utility deletes the problematic registry key, the next time you open Word, the correct key will be re-created. Now try printing the document.

Restoring Microsoft Word

If the method described above does not solve the problem, you should try another program recovery method. To do this you need to run the function "Find and restore", which will help you find and reinstall those program files that have been damaged (if any, of course). To do this, you need to run the standard utility "Add or remove programs" or "Programs and Features", depending on the OS version.

Word 2010 and higher

Word 2007

  1. Open Word, click on the Quick Access toolbar "MS Office" and go to the section "Word Options".
  2. Select options "Resources" And "Diagnostics".
  3. Follow the prompts that appear on the screen.

Word 2003

  1. Click on the button "Reference" and select "Find and restore".
  2. Click "Begin".
  3. When prompted, insert the Microsoft Office installation disc, then click "OK".
  4. If the above-described manipulations did not help eliminate the problem with printing documents, the only thing we can do is look for it in the operating system itself.

Additionally: Troubleshooting Windows problems

It also happens that the normal operation of MS Word, and at the same time the printing function we need, is interfered with by some drivers or programs. They can be in the program memory or in the system memory itself. To check if this is the case, you should start Windows in safe mode.

  1. Remove optical disks and flash drives from the computer, disconnect unnecessary devices, leaving only the keyboard and mouse.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. During restart, hold down the key "F8"(immediately after turning on, starting from the appearance of the motherboard manufacturer’s logo on the screen).
  4. A black screen with white text will appear in front of you, where in the section "Advanced boot options" you need to select an item "Safe Mode"(move using the arrow keys on your keyboard, press the key to select "ENTER").
  5. Log in as an administrator.
  6. Now, after starting your computer in safe mode, open Word and try to print a document in it. If there are no problems with printing, then the cause of the problem lies in the operating system. Therefore, it needs to be eliminated. To do this, you can try performing a system restore (assuming you have a backup of the OS). If until recently you normally printed documents in Word using this printer, after a system restore the problem will definitely disappear.

Conclusion

We hope this detailed article helped you get rid of problems with printing in Word and you were able to print the document before you tried all the methods described. If none of the options we suggested help you, we strongly recommend that you contact a qualified specialist.

This usually happens at the most inopportune time - when you urgently need to print an important document. Just yesterday, a printer that was working properly suddenly refuses to fulfill its duties: instead of a document, it throws out blank sheets of paper or blinks its lights stupidly, as if not understanding what you want from it.

Almost everyone who uses a printer regularly encounters printing problems. The most extensive group of such problems are various defects in the printed image; in second place is the complete lack of printing. There are many reasons why a printer does not print at all or prints poorly - from incorrect settings in the operating system to a malfunction of the device itself.

Why doesn't the printer print?

All reasons that lead to failures and complete failure of the printing system are conventionally divided into 3 large groups:

  1. Problems with installing and configuring the printing device in the operating system. Other types of software problems.
  2. Problems with cartridges or continuous ink supply system (CISS).
  3. Problems with the hardware of the printer itself.

The first group is the easiest for the user to diagnose and eliminate. It is possible to cope with it in approximately 90% of cases. A group of problems associated with cartridges cannot always be solved at home, but if funds allow, it is enough to simply buy a new cartridge. The third group is solved only in case of simple and typical problems, such as a paper jam, a broken connecting cable, etc. Problems associated with a malfunction of the device require contacting service.

Problems with printer installation and printing in Windows

Fortunately, the majority of problems in the printing system related to software operation are very easy to resolve. These include:

  • There is no printer driver in the operating system or the driver has failed.
  • Disable the print service.
  • The default print device is incorrect.
  • User pauses printing.
  • Switch the printer to offline mode.
  • Problems with the document in the print queue (too large, not recognized, etc.). The printer still prints, but extremely slowly. Or instead of text it displays something similar to hieroglyphs.
  • Denying access to the printing system by security policies.

More complex cases include damage to OS components, driver conflicts, and virus infection. Unlike the previous ones, it is not always possible to deal with them with a couple of mouse clicks.

Reasons why a network printer does not print:

  • The printer port on the remote computer is blocked.
  • The network path to the printer is incorrect.
  • Sharing settings are incorrectly set.

To separate problems with the printer itself from problems with your computer, try printing the document from another PC or mobile device. If it (the printer) is connected via USB, if possible, connect it wirelessly and vice versa. Your task is to find out whether the print function works anywhere.

After making sure that the source of the failure is not in the printing device, but is connected to the computer, look at the device manager (the printer must be connected to the computer and plugged in). The absence of the “Printers” group in the list of devices and the presence of unknown equipment marked with an exclamation or question mark indicates that the system does not have the necessary driver. To solve the problem, just download it from the device manufacturer’s website (for example, HP, Epson, Samsung, Canon, Brother) and install it.

If the PC sees the printer, but it still does not print, look at the “Services” application (it’s most convenient to open it through the task manager tab of the same name).

Find Print Spooler in the list of services and make sure it is running. If not, right-click its properties. In the “Startup type” drop-down list, set “Automatic”, then click the “Run” button below.

Is the problem still there? Let's move on. Launch the “Settings” system application, go to the “Devices” - “Printers and Scanners” section (this and further instructions are discussed using Windows 10 as an example). The right half of the window displays a list of all installed printers, among which should be the one with which problems occurred. If it is not there, check the physical connection of the device to the PC. If there is, click "Open Queue".

  • Is the default printer used (if not, perhaps the default printing device is a virtual printer, which instead of printing, for example, converts the file to another format).
  • Is there a checkmark next to the “Pause printing” and “Work offline” items? If the printer goes offline on its own, it indicates a poor connection to the computer, a power problem, or a malfunction.
  • If there are documents in the print queue, click Clear Queue and try printing a test page.

If the printer does not print only over the network, click "Sharing" and check if it is allowed to this device.

Next, look at the “Security” tab and make sure that your account is not prohibited from using the printing function.

The reason the printer is not queuing files could be one of the following:

  • The paper is out or jammed.
  • The toner or ink is low.
  • A non-original cartridge is installed in the device.
  • The print counter has reached its limit - printing is blocked.
  • The user account does not have permission to print files.
  • The device is faulty.
  • There was a failure in the operating system.

Devices from different manufacturers block printing in different situations. So, when a cartridge runs out of ink, one machine stops processing documents and resets the print queue, while the other simply spits out empty sheets. The same is true in other situations. The specific problems that lead to blocking are usually written in the printer instructions.

Many printer problems are well recognized by their self-diagnosis system. If the device is equipped with a display, the cause of the failure is most often displayed on it. Diagnosis of simpler devices is carried out using their proprietary application. It is usually present on the disk that came with the device, as well as on the manufacturer’s website.

Below is an example of the troubleshooting function in the proprietary application of the HP Deskjet 1050 printer.

A stop when sending a specific document for printing is most often associated with the document itself. So, if the printer does not print a pdf file, perhaps the author has protected it from printing (pdf supports such functions). In such cases, the easiest way is to take screenshots of the pages of the problematic file, paste them, for example, into a Word document and easily print them out as pictures.

If hieroglyphs, “crazy words” or spaces appear on the printed copy instead of text, try replacing the font in the document with one of the ones preinstalled in Windows (all printers recognize them).

Problems with cartridges, dye, CISS

Any dye - toner or ink - runs out sooner or later. But this does not happen suddenly. The idea that there is little paint left is suggested by a decrease in the quality of the print - pale colors, whitish stripes, partial unprinting. It happens that the printer stops printing even when the dye level is normal. This happens due to:

  • A drop of ink dries in the print head or becomes clogged with an air lock.
  • Incorrect installation of the cartridge (for example, when the protective films are not removed, the cover is not completely closed).
  • Contamination of cartridge air ducts.
  • Clamping or blockage of the CISS ink plume.
  • Blocking a non-original cartridge.
  • The limit on the number of printouts has been reached.
  • Cartridge malfunction.

Clogging the head with dried ink is a common occurrence when an inkjet printer is not used for a long time. If the plug is relatively small, cleaning the nozzles (outlet holes) helps solve the problem. This is also done using the printer’s proprietary utility, and each manufacturer has a different name for this function:

  • HP has cartridge cleaning.

  • Epson has print head cleaning.
  • Canon has cleaning and deep cleaning (the second is an enhanced option when the first doesn’t help), etc.

During cleaning, a special pump installed inside the printer forces some ink through the nozzles under high pressure. This causes a clot of paint or an air lock to come out.

The most budget printer models are not equipped with a pump, and the nozzle cleaning function does not work on them (despite the driver supporting it). If clogged, the print heads of such devices must be soaked and washed in a cleaning liquid.

On modern Epson inkjet printers, the print head is built not into the cartridges, but into the device itself, and it is quite expensive. Its failure is equivalent to the failure of the entire printer, which in such cases can only be thrown away. To prevent ink from drying out, it is important for owners of Epson printers to clean the nozzles at least once every 2 weeks if the device is idle.

If you removed cartridges from the printer, make sure that they are installed correctly and that their air ducts are not blocked.

When using CISS, first of all you should also check whether the ink plume is passable and whether the air holes of the tanks are free.

Spots and streaks (sometimes almost black sheets) when printing on a laser or LED printer are a consequence of cartridge leaks (toner spills out), overfilling of the waste bin, foreign small objects getting into the device, damage, improper installation or wear of cartridge parts.

Problems after refueling when:

  • the printer prints in only one shade, for example, red;
  • the print looks too pale when the cartridge is full;
  • instead of an image there are multi-colored spots, etc.,

As a rule, they arise due to contamination, improper installation of the cartridge in place, or a violation of the refilling technology.

The complete absence of an image (white sheets) or printing defects after replacing the original cartridge or ink with a conditionally suitable one is precisely the result of the incompatibility of the latter with your printer model. In some cases, it can be solved by reflashing the cartridges or the device, in others - only by purchasing original components and consumables.

Printer problems

A breakdown of a printing device does not always manifest itself as a complete failure, when the device does not turn on or does not perform its functions at all. In some cases it looks like this:

  • The printer does not print in one of the colors, for example, black. The cartridge is in good working order, compatible, and there is paint. Replacing the cartridge and toner does not help.
  • Only part of the document is printed.
  • The toner does not adhere to the paper.
  • Paper does not pick up from the tray.
  • The printer does not print or incorrectly transfers the text of any documents onto paper, and does not reproduce standard commonly used fonts.
  • The print is not positioned correctly on the sheet.
  • Instead of one document, several are printed and vice versa.

The majority of such problems cannot be solved at home without special training. The user can independently see if the device has jammed the paper; if yes, try to extract it; check whether the cartridge is installed correctly; remove foreign objects that have entered the device if they are easily accessible; clean visible dirt. In other cases, all that remains is to contact the service or buy a new device, if it is from a series of disposable ones, which are very cheap.

I encountered a problem that the HP printer prints only one copy of the page, no matter how many copies are set in the settings when sending for printing. It seems that the field with the setting that indicates the number of copies of the document is simply ignored by the printer (or its driver).

The printer uses the latest available version of the HP Universal Driver, downloaded from the manufacturer's website, so there was no point in updating the printer driver.

Mopier mode

If you open the content .prn file that the printer generates when sending for printing, in the print settings you can see the following useful information (highlighted in yellow).

@PJL SET QTY=2 number of copies
@PJL SET PROCESSINGBOUNDARY=MOPY MOPY mode

After searching the HP forums, I discovered that the problem may be related to the mode enabled in the driver Mopier(stands for multiple original copy). This mode involves reducing traffic between the computer and the printer, when when printing several copies of pages, only one copy of the job and the QTY parameter are transferred to the printer, indicating how many times this job needs to be printed. But there is one thing here BUT. For this mode to work correctly, the printer must have sufficient internal memory or hard disk space to store the job. Many younger models of HP printers (HP LaserJet 1160, HP 1200, HP 1320 and others) simply do not have such memory or there is not enough of it.

Therefore, the received job is immediately printed as soon as the page is received from the computer, and the printer cannot print it again from its memory.

Disabling Mopier mode on an HP printer

In this case, you need to disable Mopier mode.

  1. Go to Control Panel -> Devices and Printers-> open properties necessary printer HP.
  2. Go to the tab Device Settings
  3. Scroll down the list and in the section Installable add-ons(Installable Options) find the item mopier mode(Mopier Mode) and disable it (Off/Disabled)
  4. Save your changes.

After this, when sending several copies for printing, several identical jobs will be generated and sent over the network.

If your printer has an internal hard drive installed, but jobs from the local cache are not sent for printing when Mopier mode is enabled, in the same section of the printer settings, check whether the option is disabled:

Printer Hard disk(Memory device) - Not installed(Not installed)

Turn it on.

Changing the printer print processor

If disabling Mopier mode does not solve the problem of printing only one copy of a page, try changing the printer's print handler.

To do this:

  1. In the printer properties, go to the tab Additionally(Advanced)
  2. Click on the button Print handler(Print Processor)
  3. In the list of print processors, change the current processor from HP to the standard print processor from Microsoft - winprint
  4. Save changes
