White Bim Black Ear- a four-legged and very touching hero of the story of the same name by the Voronezh writer Gavriil Troepolsky about the tragic fate of a devoted dog. The book was a huge success, it has been translated in dozens of countries, and in American colleges it is even included in the reading program.

According to the story, a film was made in Soviet times, which was remembered and loved by millions of viewers, largely due to the brilliant performance of the great Russian actor Vyacheslav Tikhonov, who played the role of Bim's owner.

The monument to the dog was erected in front of the Voronezh Puppet Theater "Jester", not far from the fabulous and equally kind Fountain Fairy. It is made of stainless steel, cast in natural dog (Bima breed - English Setter) size.

The authors of the unique monument to Bim, famous Voronezh sculptors, Elsa Pack And Ivan Dikunov started working on it in 1985, created it at their own expense.

At the same time, the sculptors consulted with the author of the story about Bima himself, who was looking forward to the appearance of a monument to his hero. But, unfortunately, Troepolsky did not live to see its installation, which took place only in September 1998. When I arrived in Voronezh and found out that in this city there is a monument to the White Bim, I decided that I would not go there for anything. In no case. Under no circumstances. Although I am already an adult lady, the memories of gigaliliters of shed tears and mental anguish that tormented me for a long time after reading the book are very fresh. And after I watched the movie about Bim, I decided. that I will never watch such a dramatic movie in my life, it was very difficult for me to watch it and the emotions that I experienced.

I knew for sure that when I saw Bim, even if in the form of a statue, I would once again burst into tears from pity, sympathy, hopelessness and a whole range of other emotions in the same spirit. I wasn't ready to go through it all again. And I decided that Voronezh is big, is it really impossible to walk along it without meeting a monument to the dog. But, things didn't work out the way I had planned.

It is amazing how the authors of the monument managed to convey in the figure of a dog alone the whole drama of his difficult life. But there is also hope in him, which never left Bim during his lifetime, he was sure to the end that he would meet his master and everything would work out and it would be as before.

The dog is sitting on the ground, apparently, the idea of the authors of the monument, I unfortunately don’t know who they are, was to make the dog as close to people as possible, the dog’s natural posture makes him natural, he seems to be alive. On the dog's neck is a collar with a pendant engraved with his name - Bim. When I went up to him and stroked his head, my heart was breaking from a flurry of emotions.

Traditions associated with the monument to Bim

The dog is one of the symbols of Voronezh, he takes his place near the puppet theater and is a favorite of the kids. While I was standing near Bim, several kids ran up to hug him, and it was clear that they were not doing this for the first time.

The author of the story

Gavriil Troepolsky was born in 1905 and lived in the village for a long time, working as a teacher and agronomist. He began writing short stories and novels at a young age. At the age of 48, Troepolsky moved from the countryside to Voronezh. The most famous work of the writer - "White Bim Black Ear" - was published in 1971 and later translated into 20 languages. Troepolsky received the State Prize for this story.

Touching, defenseless and devoted to the end to his master, Bim did not go unnoticed by Soviet readers. In 1971, Gavriil Troepolsky was awarded the USSR State Prize, and six years later, Stanislav Rostotsky made a film based on his book. This film was nominated for an Oscar as the best foreign film.

The book itself has been translated into more than twenty foreign languages. In the USA, Troepolsky's works were published in the Classics series. The story of Beam is studied in American colleges.
